STILUS Subtitler

Generate automatically subtitles complying with the UNE norms

STILUS Subtitler is a tool to generate subtitles from transcriptions of the audiovisual contents, according to the regulations regarding the structure and characteristics of subtitles. This component can be integrated into any environment and there is a specific version for FAB Subtitler.

If you have not at your disposal the audiovisual contents, Daedalus works with systems of voice recognition capable of generating automatically initial versions of these transcriptions.

STILUS Subtitler makes a separation in syntagms so that the resulting units (2 lines of less than 38 characters) have a complete meaning. Besides it checks if the length of the lines is adequate (to avoid very short lines next to very large ones) and the second line of each couple is as large as or larger than the first one.

The following aspects of the UNE 153010 norm for Subtitling through Teletext are considered:

  • 3.f) using a maximum of 37 characters per line

  • 6.a) not dividing the words syllabically

  • 6.b) dividing the phrases considering the words of closed categories (prepositions, conjunctions...)

  • 6.d) dividing preferably according to commas or full stops

  • 9.1.a) replacing special symbols, such as

  • 9.1.b) enumeration style

  • 9.1.d) not using brackets

  • 10.1.a) using common abbreviations and acronyms

Following the RTVE example, the points 6.e and 9.c are not considered (using suspension points to link subtitles divided in several pages). Because of a technical impossibility, the point 6.c neither is considered (dividing by interpretative pauses or voice inflection from the reader).

In the Daedalus demo website you can test the STILUS Subtitler abilities through the demo for Automatic generation of subtitles. If you wish more information on this product or you have any question or comment, don't hesitate to contact us.
